Trammelings

Trammeling People[]

The Trammeling People are by far the most numerous and most materially and socially developed of the Three Peoples of the Trammelings. They are the namesake of the Trammelings (island chain). They are, for the most part, a peaceful fishing and gathering culture that lives along the coastlands, deltas, and estuaries of the Trammelings. They live in stilted villages, often with a stockaded holdfast in their center. These villages can have upto a thosand inhabitants. These villages are usually ruled by a tribal chief. Often, larger villages rule surrouding satillite settlements. Some of these approach proto-chiefdoms in their political organization. The Trammelings practice limited subsistance agriculture (mainly in the form of rice paddies) and have massive aquaculture operations. They also are famous for water-fowling using intricately woven nets, which they skillfully toss to ensare the fowl. They adorn themselves with richly-colored ornate headdresses from these tropical fowl. However, their trammeling is mainly used  for freshwater fishing from dugout canoe. The Trammeling culture is complex enough to have specialists such as artistans, such as basket weavers, headress-makers, flinters, and fletchers. The Trammelings, however, are a neolithic culture. Ironically, as the most politically and economically organized of the Three Peoples, they are the religiously most simple. They worship animal spirits and venerate tribal totems which represent them. Each village is name for the totem which protects it.
